A dark adventure game

Diablo II is a premium action and adventure game developed by Blizzard Entertainment. This game sees your return to the dark world of Sanctuary, picking up where its predecessor left off. You choose from five initial character classes and fight your way across four acts, ultimately facing off with the titular big bad.

Most of the changes introduced in Diablo II sets the tone for the rest of the franchise, including Diablo III and Diablo 4. It successfully expands the world by introducing themed sections inspired by different real-world cultures. Be ready because the unforgiving difficulty scaling will definitely set new players back.

Continue the battle against evil

The game follows a storyline that is divided into four acts that follow the original Diablo game. In each one, you will be required to fulfill different missions that are usually composed of slaying lesser demons that are lurking in the area and cleansing a corrupted soul. Such tasks are easier said than done. Diablo II is incredibly complex and the adventure that awaits you can be mind-numbing.

Exploration and cleansing missions have the tendency to be so challenging that it is nearly impossible to clear them in a day. Being stumped usually is caused by powerful demons that are hard to defeat or being at a loss for what to do next after clearing a mission. The game’s setting is also usually set in vast fields or dark, narrow dungeons that are teeming with persistent demons. Diablo II is a recommendable game to play but keep in mind that patience and hard work are required in order to pull off successful gameplay.

In your fight against the demons, you are given the chance to choose which character you think would be most effective to fend monsters off and which suits you best.  In this base version, you get to choose between five different character classes, each with strengths and weaknesses suited to different playstyles. The playable classes in Diablo II include the following:

  • The Amazon is exceptional with spears and javelins, with defensive skills focused on agility and dodging attacks.
  • The Barbarian is a tanky melee fighter designed to withstand attacks and carry heavy weapons. It can dual-wield and has a couple of skills for boosting its attack and defense.
  • The Sorceress casts a variety of elemental spells that deal massive damage to make up for their lack of physical defense.
  • The Necromancer is also a spell-caster, but with skills focused on death and raising the undead.
  • The Paladin is a defensive character with a focus on Holy skills that protect itself, its allies, and damage enemies.

Impressive graphics and design

The game is enveloped with an ever-present ominous aura, which justifies its dark themes. Even the costume and character designs are well thought of. Enemies and monsters do look menacing rather than ridiculously unrealistic. The game’s effects also bring shine to the overall look of the game as you play. Performing powerful attacks and magic is actually a sight to see. Each detail of the game stands out despite its dark tones.

A dark and magical adventure

Diablo II is a game that does not disappoint. The adventures are challenging yet rewarding. It has high-quality graphics and engaging effects that will mesmerize you as you play. As a fantasy RPG, it has held up well over the years and with good reason. It is rewarding as it is difficult. Its continuously scaling levels make it enjoyable for longer. Recommended.
